STARBUCKS:
what to order!

September

Well, hellooooo Monday and helllloooooo Starbucks. It’s no secret around here that I have been a devout Starbucks lover since the day I discovered that beautiful mermaid in the green circle. There is something about it, the flavors, the choices, the aesthetic of the stores.. No matter where I am, a new city, different state or in an airport, Starbucks my little slice of comfort. I collect the cups, gift cards and yes, of course I’m a gold star member. Over my years of enjoying this coffee, I have gone through seasons of ordering the SAME drink over and over depending on my mood. What I didn’t realize, was that most of these drinks were killing my hard work at the gym! I put together just a few swaps for you to see the difference in macros when ordering straight from the menu, OR building it yourself and still being able to enjoy (and fit it in your day!)

Of course there are a TON of swaps you can make, but I’m just highlighting a few so you can get the idea! First, my GO TO fave when I was in college. Hot or cold, I LOVE Starbucks Chai Tea Latte. Here is the difference when you order it as is off the menu:chaiAnother LONG TIME favorite of mine (and who doesn’t love) a caramel frappuccino in their life every once in awhile?? The light version is a GREAT option. I can taste a little bit of a difference, but once you cut out the high sugar options, the light version will seem like a REALLY sweet treat anyway! frapI have to be honest here, I’ve never ordered the Green Tea Frappuccino, but I’m sure it’s delicious. The reason I’m highlighting it is because I think we can tend to assume that certain choices may be “healthier” based on their titles alone. So, if you are a green tea drinker, skip the frapp and just order the green tea, unsweetened. If you like it sweetened, add a Stevia OR even one pump of Orange or Raspberry syrup (it will add about 7-10g carbs.. but so delish!) The Venti Iced Unsweetened Green Tea is almost ALWAYS my choice. Some things you may not know about green tea:

  1. It increases the metabolism
  2. Helps regulate blood sugar (great for those with diabetes)
  3. May aid in decreasing risk of heart disease
  4. Reduces bad cholesterol to balance the ratio of good cholesterol
  5. May be linked with delaying the deterioration caused by Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s
  6. An amino acid present in green tea called “theanine” is said to help decrease the affects of depression
  7. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties may reduce signs of aging and sun damage!greentea To put this into perspective, this next delicious drink is ALMOST identical in macros to a FOOTLONG Subway Turkey Sandwich (the sandwich contains more protein). So keep in mind, if you’re HUNGRY and want more volume to fill your belly, go with the Subway. OR, just get the 6-inch sandwich instead of the footlong AND my modified White Mocha! It’s all about getting to enjoy all the things you love when we learn how to make it all fit!icedwhitemocha Last, but not least… Pumpkin Spice Latte in the HOOUUUUSE!!!! What???? Now, if you order this bad boy as is, this is what you get. I love that pumpkin life, but ONE pump is just enough for me!! Try this swap, hot OR cold and even add 2 TB of half and half to it if you like cream! That will add 3g fat, but better than 14g!! You can order and Americano (or drip coffee) with ONE pump of pumpkin and it’s a great compromise!pslNow, PIN these images on a new board entitled “MACRO LOVE” or whatever creative little title you want to give it, and start saving these images to help you in your future trips to the Sbux.
